I could not contain my excitement for this school trip, although our flight to Jogja was on Thursday, all my bags were packed days earlier. Spending three days away from school with friends was very tempting, no homework, no tests, no books was indeed something to look forward to.
After a 60-minute flight on GA 204, we found ourselves in Jogja. The first item on our itinerary was a trip to Goa Pindul at Wonosari. ‘Goa’ means ‘cave’, and our first activity was ‘cave tubing’, which allows us to float along a river in a rubber tube to a journey that takes us to a dark cave. It was an enjoyable and challenging experience. Exhausted from the activity and the early flight, we checked-in to the luxurious Grand Aston Hotel.
The second day’s schedule brought us to the Wildlife Rescue Centre; this is not a typical zoo that I have visited in the past. It is an animal conservatory, though mostly for orangutans. Here they rehabilitate injured animals and release them back to the wild. This has increased our awareness on how human action affects wildlife.
Later that day we headed to Kalibiru National Park that has a breath-taking view of nature and some fun outdoor activities, the most popular being taking Instragrammable photos at the “tree stage” to share on social media. The highlight of our last night in this beautiful city was our dinner at the very stylish rooftop of Neo Hotel. We had good food, lots of laughter and great memories to take back.
Saturday came too soon, I guess when you’re with friends, you don’t know how time passes. The last day of our ‘Jalan-Jalan’ included visits to Merapi Museum and to Candi Prambanan, a temple dedicated to the Hindu God, Shiva. Our journey came to an end, and we bade goodbye to Jogja and headed home. Thank you Jogja for the memories and I look forward to seeing you again.
